Medical Emergency¶
One of the main functionalities of the BiDiApp is the possibility to send an emergency call to the call centre to get urgently in contact with an operator via video chat. To send an emergency call from the BiDiApp, press the red Alarm button.
Once the alarm button is pressed, the screen as in the following picture will be displayed. A timer will count down from 5 to 0 seconds, after which the alarm will be sent. During those 5 seconds, it is still possible to cancel the alarm by pressing the red Cancel button. Doing so will cause the app to return to the Home screen.
If the alarm is not canceled and the timer reaches 0, the app will start retrieving the user’s position in the queue at the control center (below figure). This process can take a few seconds. It is now possible to return to the home screen with the Return button. Best practice however, is to stay in the emergency dial screen, the feedback of the alarm status is displayed here.
When the alarm is successfully sent and the position in the queue retrieved, the screen in below figure is shown. The text indicating the position in the queue is updated automatically whenever an alarm from another user is picked up. By pressing the green Return button, the app goes back to the Home screen as shown in figure below
If the alarm cannot be sent for some reason (for instance, the connection is lost), the screen in below figure is shown. At this point, only the Return button is enabled that takes the app back to the Home screen.
When the alarm is picked up by an operator at the control center, the app will react differently based on whether the app is on the ‘Outgoing alarm’ screen or not.
If not, an incoming video call screen will be shown inside the app (below figure) or a push notification is shown if the app is closed. At this point, the call can either be accepted via the Accept button or declined with the Decline button.
If the video call is accepted (manually via the Incoming video call screen or automatically when the app is on the Outgoing alarm screen), the video call screen looks like the picture below.
On this screen, there are several buttons to control the call:
Icon | Description |
---|---|
Switch between the front- and back-facing cameras | |
Hide the video (the operator will no longer be able to see you) | |
Mute the audio (the operator will no longer be able to hear you) |
To end the call, either the operator can close the call at the control center or the user can press the red Disconnect button at the bottom of the screen.
